A quick guide for getting started with your AptEdge Templates.

One of my biggest goals with AptEdge has never been to simply hand you a Canva template. I want you to actually feel confident using it.

Whether you've been using Canva for years or this is your very first template, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know so you can spend less time figuring out technology—and more time creating welcoming communities your residents will remember!

Let's get you started.

Step 1: Create Your Free Canva Account

Every AptEdge template is built inside Canva.

The good news? You don't need Canva Pro to use most of our templates. A free Canva account works perfectly for the majority of products available in the shop.

If you don't already have an account, you can create one in just a few minutes.

✨ AptEdge Tip: I recommend creating your account on a computer first. It makes accepting template links much easier.

Step 2: Open Your Template

After purchasing (or downloading one of our freebies), you'll receive a Canva template link.

When you click the link, Canva will ask if you'd like to use the template.

Simply select Use Template, and Canva will automatically create your own editable copy.

Don't worry—you'll never edit the original master file.

Step 3: Edit Away

Now comes the fun part.

Customize your template by changing:

  • Colors

  • Fonts

  • Photos

  • Logos

  • Text

  • Event details

  • Community branding

Everything is designed to be simple, flexible, and beginner friendly.

No graphic design experience required.

Step 4: Download & Share

Once your design is finished, click Share → Download in Canva.

Depending on where you're posting, you can export your design as:

  • PNG (perfect for social media)

  • PDF (great for flyers and printable signs)

  • JPG (quick sharing)

  • PDF Print (high-quality printing)

You're ready to post, print, email, or display your finished design.

Before You Use the Canva App...

Here's one small recommendation that can save you a lot of frustration.

For your first time opening any AptEdge template, use Canva in your web browser instead of the Canva mobile app.

The browser version handles template links much more reliably and ensures everything opens exactly as intended. After your template has been added to your Canva account, you can easily continue editing from the app if you prefer.

A two-minute habit that saves a lot of head scratching.
